Current Research Projects

Under the direction of Dr. Tony C. Whitson, Ph. D, member of the American Psychological Association and National Society of Leadership and Success.

  1. Title: Reframing Narratives: How African American Male Students Attending an Urban HBCU Use Narrative Reframing to Redirect Their Mental Health Well-Being to Persist in College.
  2. Brief description: The problem addressed by this study was the lack of specific information about the reframing narratives of graduating African American male students. Robust anti-deficit research about black males and academic achievement has endorsed the concept of the counter-narrative. Thus, the purpose of this study was to explore those reframing narratives and to validate or challenge the theoretical framework of the study, the black identity development theory.
